Comfort in Melodic Hardcore – Review of “Comfort in My Own Arms” album by Virtues

Melodic hardcore as a genre has been floundering as of late. Much like the progressive trend of hardcore punk in the 2000s, after a while new music seems to dry up. What remains is the old guard holding the bastion, and hardly any young punks willing to take up arms (well, instruments) to create new music. Enter Virtues, a melodic hardcore band from Singapore, who in their first full release, “Comfort in My Own Arms,” have provided the stop gap needed in the genre as a whole.

The beginning of a new era in idol music – An in-depth look into Kosame’s first single, “Cord”

What happens when you take all the classic death metal, metalcore, tech metal, and other genres from the early 2000s and cram them into a 2021 idol song? You get Kosame and her first single, Cord.

Much like Miho in the last post, Kosame is produced and manged by former From A Second Story Window guitarist, Derek Vasconi. But unlike, Miho’s song, Doubt, Cord has a ton of influence from Vasconi’s previous work.

The reboot we never thought we needed – Miho’s latest single, “Doubt”

The purpose of this website site, even though it hasn’t been updated in a while, is about writing whatever the author wants. It could be about books, movies, video games, music, etc. The focus is not always the same subject, however the past few posts have been about a specific sub-genre of music. A hyper-focused genre that you either love or hate.

That being said, it has been difficult to figure out what to write next. Continuing down the same trend of idol music might paint the website in the light of an idol focused website, but it is not. It was never the intention to do that. However, sometimes you just want to write. And maybe that means writing about whatever you want.

A serviceable album of remakes – A look at Not Secured, Loose Ends album, DarkBright

Not Secured, Loose Ends is an alternative jpop/idol group from Japan focusing on more metalcore and melodic aspects of music. “DarkBright” is the followup to their previous album, “BrightDark,” containing a number of old songs rerecorded.

Town Destroyer is a melodic hardcore band from Houston, Texas. Their release, “Petrichor,” is a collection of attractive songs, but they might be more than meets the eye.
